About

Laura Gibbs

Welcome

I’m glad you’re “here”—taking steps to make your mental health a priority.  After over a decade of counseling experience, including work in nonprofit agencies, a hospital and group practice, I’m excited to now offer my expertise in my solo practice.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of IL.  I obtained my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bradley University in 2013, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Western IL University in 2007.  I’ve served as President of the Beta Phi Chapter of the Chi Sigma Iota Professional Counselor’s Association.  I enjoy continuing my professional development and consultation with peers as I believe the learning process in this field should never end!

Outside of work, I can be found spending time with family, baking, doing yoga and spending time outdoors.  Those who know me describe me as patient, warm and genuine, and I strive to embody an open and accepting energy with each and every one of my clients.

I am particularly skilled working with various facets of anxiety, perfectionism/people-pleasing, grief and life adjustments. I also work with clients who may be struggling with depression or trauma related to relationships and/or family. Currently, I am focusing my work on individual counseling, serving adult clients but I do have experience working with children and teens, and on through the lifespan!

I accept insurance, and am in network with BCBS, Health Alliance, United Healthcare (Optum) and Cigna.  I also offer private pay sessions, starting at $120 per hour.  You can choose to meet with me in person at my Peoria office, or from the comfort of your own home via secure telehealth (video) sessions.

Approach and Experience:

A great question to ask when looking for a counselor, is what therapeutic style or approach they use to treat their clients’ presenting challenges.  While this is not an exhaustive list, here is an overview of therapeutic approaches I have experience working in, and/or specialized training in:

-Grief and Loss (Companioning and Process Oriented Model, experience with Palliative care)

-Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (trained)

-Parenting Support (experience in foster care and pediatric supportive care)

-Caregiver Support (experience in grandparents raising grandchildren, family support and palliative care)

-Postpartum/Peripartum mental health (PSI trained)

-Internal Family Systems (trained, not certified)
